Dear friends, Greetings from Rising Flame! We are very excited to announce the launch of our feminist leadership program for women activists living with disabilities in India - Swarna Jyoti. Through this program, we aim to empower the next generation of leaders from disability rights movement and build stronger feminist understanding among women with disabilities across the country. We are launching this annual program particularly to mark the completion of 25 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted by the United Nations in 1995. This was a commitment towards the advancement of the rights of women and girls, in all dimensions of their lives. It imagined a world where all women were able to exercise their freedoms without fear, however that does not hold true for women with disabilities who are often left behind. Our disabled women activists can change this, and that is what we will work towards through the training and field work with them. The program will span across 2 months, where they will undergo a rigorous virtual training in Hindi and sign language, and will then commit to taking their learnings to the field for implementation, advocacy and change. Grassroots women activists with disabilities from India who fulfil these criteria · Have a minimum of 3 years of experience · Are between the age of 25 and 40 · Can communicate in Hindi or Indian sign language · Those who have access to a phone / computer, since the trainings will be conducted online via Zoom We value your work and the deep networks that you have built over the years. We are reaching out to you to nominate women with disabilities activists working at the grassroots for this program.
