Not sure if this issue is resolved yet. But I figured out a way to fix it. Once you open the Gmail and obviously it would open in Standard view. Go to the address bar and delete "#inbox" and then type "h/lw1ekynym8/?&" instead and press enter. The Gmail would now open in Basic html view, but unfortunately this isn't a default option, however it is handy when you don't find the Basic html option on the page. Hope it helps.
