SUB: Information about Diploma in physiotherapy for the Blind.

Respected Sir / Madame,

Established in 1908, The Deaf Mute Society is one of the oldest organizations 
in the field of education and rehabilitation of the hearing and the visually
impaired.

This organization has a proud history of being pioneers in the field of the 
education of the visual and the hearing impaired.

Keeping with this tradition the Deaf Mute's Society has started for the first 
time in India, a diploma course in physiotherapy for the visually impaired.

This course, which was started on the 1st of August 2005, has been specially 
designed to meet the demands of the modern day physiotherapist. It will 
endeavour
to enhance the career of the visually impaired candidate, and transform him 
into a complete professional who would be ready to meet the challenges of the
society.

This 3-year course has been affiliated to the Babasaheb Ambadkar Open 
University. {R. C. Technical complex, S. G. road, Ahmedabad.}

Eligibility for the course:

Any visually Impaired person who has passed the standard 12th exam with 
English, as a subject is considered eligible for this course.

An interview shall be conducted prior to admission for all the candidates.

Term of study:

The new term shall commence in the month of June and the final exams shall be 
conducted in the month of May the subsequent year.

Facilities provided:

The students shall be provided with hostel facilities. Separate hostels are 
allotted for male and female students.

Fee structure:

Only fees charged by the University for study purpose shall be charged from the 
students. Lodging and boarding is free for all students.

Mode of teaching and examination format:

Experienced professionals in the field of medicine shall teach the students.

Computers shall be used as a teaching tool, and all the students are taught the 
use of computers during the 1st year of study.

Spoken English is taught during the 1st year in order to improve the English 
speaking skills of all the students.

In order to aquaint the students with the principles of physics on which 
physiotherapy is based, Physics is taught as a subject during the 1st year

All the exams are conducted using the multiple choice question format on the 
computer.

The students shall be provided the study material in various formats, according 
to the needs of each individual student; in order to make it universally
accessible.
