Hi Minar, I do not have a good answer. Rats do come out during the day and are a royal pain at night. I have been bitten too. As for the fear, wear shoes for one thing for as long as you can. Remember you are bigger and stronger, your fear probably stems from the fact that since you cannot see, you do not know where the rat is and when it will attack you. I have heard of sonic rat Repeller's but do not know how well they work.
The sticky pads may work but a better option may be getting a professional pest control service. This may be significantly more expensive but is worth it because they may also help identify how the rat got in in the first place. Avoid cats unless you are comfortable with animals.
