Hi, Generally, only the 1st step is based on direction as the GPS can't ascertain which side you are facing. Once it judges bases your driving/ walking directions, it begins to be more precise. But I agree, it becomes pretty hard to start if you are very new to that place. May be a personal opinion but I have seen google maps being accurate more than 90% of the times (used while traveling across cities). A lot of times, users including cab drivers miss a turn and then blame it on maps.
