Hi Aziz,

A lot depends on the cane and its efficiency, which will differ from cane
to cane. The best thing will be to try one out if you can get hands-on to
before purchasing it.

I happened to try one smart cane from Turkey, which would range between
45-48k in original price, it is a new smart cane and quite popular in North
American organizations right now because of its promises. I got a demo, and
here are my observations:

1. The cane effectively warned , with haptic feedback when something was in
the vicinity of the sensor, a tree, a person, a vehicle, a metal rod, or
anything.
2. It vibrated when I approached towards the roads, we were not totally
sure if it was telling about the road, the crossing, or warning against the
moving vehicles (which were still a bit far).
3. It was a bit bulky, but its controls were easy to use, I was told the
sensor was configurable as well, using the mobile app, which I didn't use.
4. I had to hold it in a particular orientation, so that the sensor looks
in a particular direction, tilting it to an angle might give me warnings
about the obstacles on my sides, and ignore the other side, which will not
be very useful.
5. I had this particular case where I was walking by a low-hanging tree
branch, must be 5 ft from ground level, about 2 - 2.5 ft from the sensor.
It did not catch it and I got hit with it. We tried with similar branches,
and it did not detect until about 1 - 1.5 ft. I am not sure if calibrating
the sensor would help.

Thanks,
Vaibhav
