Hi list members, Ideally, securing term life insurance should not be a problem for any person with disability unless nature of disability is not degenerative in nature or the person is already suffering from a serious co-morbidity. The issue arises out of negligence/misconception on part of insurance agents and underwriters. I myself had a term life insurance policy from SBI Life. However, it was issued after elaborate medical examination (at the cost of insurance company) and a declaration from a registered eye doctor on the format provided by the insurance company. It was issued till I attain 57 years of age. Moreover, one should also be mindful that after the onset of pandemic, premium for term insurance have risen significantly. Those who are not able to secure regular term life insurance plan can consider government backed PMSBY and PMJJBY and APY. These micro-insurance and micro-pension policies were originally targeted at EWS/LIG people but open for all.
