irrespective of many new types of scanners, flatbed scanners which you
mentioned as your 1990 memories are the best even today. You will get
a lot better accuracy of OCR text in flatbed scanner comparing to snap
camera based scanners. Better to buy a flatbed scanner with good speed
of scanning. Modern flatbed scanners can scan 10 pages per minute, by
that speed you can finish 300 pages book with in 35 minutes. These
modern camera based scanners have their own advantages though, such as
portability, good speed and less efforts. But for totally blind person
sometime it gets difficult to identify whether a correct snap was
taken by the scanner or no. In flatbed you know have you placed the
book correctly on the glass of the scanner...
