Hi everyone who helped me! All is well now! The problem with linkedin giving trouble was that the linkedin app was downloaded on my laptop without my knowledge! And once Ajay Manocha figured it out for me, he told me to uninstall the same and then work; all trouble was over and I am good to go! Thank you all of you!

Just press application key on an item and arrow down to the end task option. If you activate it by pressing enter, the application will be closed. As regards closing a tab on a browser, ctrl+f4 should work. Why can't you follow the name of the browser? Insert+t always announces the name of the browser after the title of the page?
