Thanks for your response. My disposition was aimed at giving solace on an emotional level to those experiencing the loss of the departed soul, by expressing the great opportunity ahead. Of course this does not take away from the challenges faced by those left behind. No doubt there will be situations like this where those remaining behind on this earth may face great difficulty on a physical level, particularly when the departed soul is the bread winner. My suggestion for those remaining behind however does not change. Our best option for those left behind is to turn to God who is the ultimate protector and provider. These days we have become doubtful of that protection, and we tend to claim it is an empty assurance not based on practical solutions. It is the lack of faith that in fact leaves us vulnerable. I will instead go so far as to insist that anyone who fearlessly depends on God’s protection will never go hungry, particularly when they are giving their time and energy in his divine service. I am a typical example of that. I left my well-paying job in South Africa and came to live in the sacred land of Vrindavana India. I have two teen-aged sons and a wife without work experience who lived as a housewife only. Yet on coming here, extraordinary things happened over the year and a half that I now live here, such as investment opportunities I never dreamed of being possible. Now I live a life even equivalent to if not better than the standard of life I lived back in South Africa, and even without working. Not that I do not work. I work for God or Krishna by spending all my time in devotional activities like chanting Japa, studying scripture and associating with saintly persons. But God takes care of my personal needs automatically, most extraordinarily. All I have said here does not serve to justify insensitivity from God-conscious persons upon the pain and struggles of others facing loss and death. On the contrary the need for compassion exists, but which takes mostly the form of sharing spiritual truths which gives shelter to the pained heart. It goes without saying that those close to the situation of those facing loss and death should show whatever form of support possible, be it financial, moral Etc, but spiritual shelter is still the best pain reliever and strength giver through any adversity. So instead of diving deep into this topic, I will conclude by offering the thought that while we celebrate the work of those individuals on Earth, we can also celebrate their freedom now from the shackles of this blind physical body that incapsulated that soul for its less fortunate duration. We can, on their behalf, look forward to better and brighter futures for them. Many of these people were actively advocating for accessibility, inclusion and other social and opportunity advantages for us. They had active natures, so they will become very bored “resting in peace”. I will instead therefore not wish them a rest in eternal peace, but instead wish them a vibrant, dynamic future, in which they are actively pursuing their hearts desire, without the limitation of a defective physical body. But more than that, I wish them the opportunity to connect with divinity, and to attain a happiness in the company of the supreme being I call Sri Krishna (you may refer to other names of the supreme, that’s all well), for that happiness in union with the divine is the most fascinating and dynamic engagement, also with others in that space. Even if this goal may be accomplished over time for some of us and even for some of those who have departed but must continue the cycle of life, I pray that they will quickly, by special mercy, show an interest in the supreme being, which is the only way of overcoming the cycle of repeated birth and death. While we may miss them as persons we once knew, revered and loved, we can let them go, being excited for their freedom from physical limitations that have befallen them in this body of being blind. Thus with saddened hearts let us not fail to celebrate their good fortune. For me personally leaving this blind body will be a celebration.
