You’ve asked me this before and I thought I had answered you. Appologies if I did not. It’s not just that I believe it Paul, but there is now just too much evidence to ignore it. Doctors like Ian Stevenson and Dr. Tucker have presented tons of case evidence of past life memories. It’s no longer just a question of religious belief, or that the most extensively detailed, ancient Vedic texts discuss this. It is now becoming more and more a scientifically recognized, researched and investigated phenomena. Do you not believe there is life after this one? What about life before this one? Do you believe you are conscious only now even though there is an unlimited time going back in eternal time? Why would you be conscious only now, never before, and never after this life? Just as I am happy to embrace my physical disability of being “blind”, I will get “old” too and that is part of life too, so I’m not feeling the need to shy away from the facts. For me, neither does it mean that old-age implies doing nothing. I am very busy practicing bhajan in preparation for the next life. Is this not the highest form of activity for the living being? It’s far superior to old people who waste time trying to play golf with a walking stick! But even they are active, not idle anyway. So I’m happy to call a spade a spade, although it would be a clever deviation to call it a “land tilling apparatus”! With those disclaimers out of the way, and clearly so, the term “Retirement facility” does sound a little more on the executive level of language, so only for that reason, because it just rings well, I’ll call it a retirement facility for visually challenged people, instead of an old-age home for the blind. The latter just sounds that much more lame from a language perspective! Then again I’m English speaking from birth so others may not feel the same way about the use of language in English. Interesting to know how Hindi, Tamil and other Indian language speakers will see it from a language usage perspective. I’ll end by repeating: Never feel ashamed of your situation. Even close to death we may be passing loose stool in our clothing, while loved ones will need to clean us up. We must practice from now to feel dignified in all situations, knowing that we are not the body but the soul that inhabits it, and as such we are dear to the supreme Lord Sri Krishna, Christ or Allah as you may know him. That’s all that matters. The rest is just temporary, imperfect worldly considerations, and we all must get there sooner or later. Today I turn 48 years old. Soon I’ll be half way to a century! Have, I have a thought nagging at me since yesterday. Sam might call semantics, but it's still a thought I wanted to air. Why should these places be called old age homes? Today, people at 60+ are not considered old, and can still contribute so much. Somehow, to the mind old-age home brings up A negative connotation and feels like a place for people who simply want to live the rest of their years with nothing else to do. Why can't it instead be called a senior living facility or a retirement facility? Am I the only one who feels this way, or are there others who think like this as well?
