Hello list, I wanted to share some important information regarding India's upcoming appearance before the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This review is part of a regular process where countries that are signatories to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) report on their progress in upholding the rights of persons with disabilities. India will be reviewed during the 32nd session of the Committee, which is scheduled to take place from August 19 to September 13, 2024, in Geneva. During this session, the Committee will discuss India's periodic reports, which outline the steps the country has taken to implement the provisions of the CRPD. The Committee will also review individual communications (complaints from individuals or groups) and follow up on any previous recommendations. This is not the first time India has participated in such a review. India was also reviewed during the 22nd session, which took place from August 26 to September 20, 2019. These reviews are crucial for holding countries accountable and ensuring that they are making progress in protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
