The accessibility depends on what tools you are using. If you are writing code, then they are easier to solve. Most data scientists use python which is a programming language. Your problem starts when you look at data. You need an efficient way to quickly get a sense of said data. Much depends on the data itself. If numbers, you may want to plot a graph. Audio graphing may be useful here. However, if the data is text based, you will need some way to summarize it. I believe tools like Google’s big query are also used since you need to deal with data at an industrial scale. Data Science is like any other profession. If you are interested in it, go for it. Do not stop yourself because of a lack of accessibility. See the website https://www.kaggle.com/ Do some of the challenges on that site and get a feel for data science.
