The function to mark the release in Braille of the popular non-fiction
books, “Vidnyanachi Garudzep” written by astronomer & author, Dr. Jayant
Naralikar and “Katha ISRO Chi” written by Dr. Vasant Gowarikar was held
at Sahyog Mandir, Thane on 27^th October 2024. The Braille version of
the books were released by the Chief guest, Padma vibhushan Dr. Anil
Kakodkar & the Chairman of the function, Padma bhushan Dr. Jeshtaraj Joshi.
Both the books were transcribed into Braille by Smt. Sadhana Vaze who
has transcribed more than 70 books till date. Smt. Sadhana Vaze is also
the former president of the Rotary Club of Thana West & a trustee of
Snehankit Helpline. Snehankit Helpline, a Mumbai-based NGO working for
the blind students & youth for more than 23 years had published the
transcribed books in Braille. The publication of the books was sponsored
by industrialist Smt. Netra Bhalerao. Smt. Sadhana Vaze, Smt. Netra
Bhalerao & Smt. Parimala Bhat, founder-trustee of Snehankit Helpline
attended the book release function.
The book release function was organised jointly by Marathi Vidnyan
Parishad & the Rotary Club of Thana West. The other dignitaries present
at the function included scientist Shri D. K. Soman, President of
Marathi Vidnyan Parishad, Shri Sangram Joshi, Secretary of Rotary
district 3142 & Shri Shrirang Deshpande, President of Rotary Club of
Thana West.
After the Braille books were released by Dr. Anil Kakodkar & Dr.
Jeshtaraj Joshi, Ms. Rujul Goithale, a blind student gave a
demonstration of braille reading. Braille copies of the books were
distributed to blind children attending the event.
The Chief Guest, the Chairman of the function, & other dignitaries
appreciated the work done by Ms. Sadhana Vaze & shared their views with
the assembled audience. Ms. Parimala Bhat spoke about the need for
braille books.A short audio-video film showing the presentation of the
first copy of the braille books to Dr. Jayant Naralikar & Smt. Sudha
Gowarikar was also shown during the function. The function ended with a
vote of thanks by Smt. Pratiksha Borde.
