Hi everyone, I was reflecting on this recently and realized that our country's traffic signals should also be more accessible, especially for the blind and visually impaired. While we often discuss tactile footpaths and pathways, the accessibility of traffic has not been discussed on the group. In many developed countries like the USA, traffic signals are equipped with Audio Pedestrian Systems (APS) that announce the signal status—such as red, green, or countdown timers—helping visually impaired individuals navigate safely. Are there any places in India where such technology has already been implemented? If not, this is something that urgently needs attention. With the ongoing efforts toward inclusive infrastructure, those involved in policymaking—especially in response to the Supreme Court’s directives on accessibility—should incorporate this requirement into new laws and regulations.
