Hi, I wrote to tally yesterday. This was my Email: Dear Tally Team, I hope you are doing well. I am a visually impaired (blind) commerce student who is keen on learning the Tally accounting software to enhance my employment opportunities. However, I have encountered significant accessibility challenges while using the software with screen readers. Currently, Tally is not compatible with Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA), a free and widely used screen reader that many employers prefer. Making Tally fully functional with NVDA would enable blind individuals to use it independently and effectively. Even with JAWS, the compatibility is limited. The menus are difficult to navigate, and many edit fields are not labeled properly, making it challenging to input and retrieve financial data efficiently. These issues can negatively impact the performance and productivity of blind professionals who rely on Tally for their work. As per Section 46 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, all service providers, including private companies, are required to make their services—including software and websites—accessible to persons with disabilities. This is further reinforced by Rule 15 of the RPwD Rules, 2017, which mandates that every establishment must comply with prescribed accessibility standards for Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The latest amendment (May 11, 2023) also requires all websites, applications, and ICT-based public services to adhere to Indian Standards IS 17802 (Part 1 and Part 2) for accessibility. Given these legal obligations, I sincerely request you to enhance Tally’s accessibility by ensuring full compatibility with NVDA and improving support for JAWS. Making Tally fully accessible will not only align with legal requirements but also promote inclusivity and create better employment opportunities for blind individuals in the field of accounting and finance. This is how they responded: Dear Saurav Hegde, Thank you for sharing the product suggestion. We understand that you wanted to enable Tally.ERP 9/TallyPrime to work with software’s (example screen reading software) which will be helpful for blind people to use Tally.ERP 9/ TallyPrime. We would like to inform you that this has still been taken as a requirement in the product. To keep you posted revert us with the serial number or registered mail ID when it is taken up in the product.
