Good News: The issue with Google TTS (Text-to-Speech) Indian English voices mispronouncing the letter "e" as "a" and "0" as "o" has finally been fixed! I had reported this over three years ago — on 16 May 2022. I raised it directly with the Google Disability Support Team, and it took more than 35 emails to follow up. Since the issue remained unresolved for so long, I held them accountable by posting about it on X (Twitter) and even DM the Head of EMEA Accessibility and Disability Innovation at Google via LinkedIn, who eventually inquired into the matter. I’m not sure which action worked — but thankfully, the issue has now been resolved in the latest update of Google TTS. Please don’t assume the Google Disability Support Team always takes this long. While this specific case took time, in general, they are more responsive than many other companies when it comes to implementing accessibility-related feature requests and bug fixing. I have personally submitted over 100 feedbacks, including bug reports and feature requests. Some that I remember include: • Making visited links identifiable (like NVDA) • Providing more elements such as checkboxes and edit fields • Enabling navigation by rows and columns in tables • Adding detailed voice guidance for Google Maps • Including more Indian languages like Konkani, Manipuri, Assamese, etc. They not only implemented the languages I requested — they went beyond that and added even more Indian languages I wasn't even aware of. In fact, all the above feature requests I provided have been implemented. This proves that giving feedback to the Google Disability Support Team is absolutely worth it. Recently, I’ve seen people in few social media groups not only giving feedback but also sharing responses from companies — which is great. But as I always say, we should encourage others to give the same feedback, because when a company receives multiple requests for the same issue, it helps speed up implementation. About two years ago — and even occasionally since then — I’ve explained how to give feedback to Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Be My Eyes, and Spotify through the Be My Eyes app. Simply open the app (available on both the App Store and Play Store), go to the Service Directory, and under the Technical section, you’ll find these companies. You can call them directly using Be My Eyes, ask questions, report bugs, or request new features during their working hours. Any user of Google products and services can submit feature requests, report bugs, or ask questions using various contact methods — including Call, Email, Live Chat, American Sign Language Specialist, or Be My Eyes Call — through the link below: 🔗 https://support.google.com/accessibility/answer/7641084?hl=en&ref_topic=9071908&sjid=199523313426904780-AP#zippy=%2Chours-languages-for-google-disability-support-team — Ashutosh Singhal
