Dear Listeners,

This week on Eyeway Conversations, we speak with Agustya Mehta, Director of
Concept Engineering at Meta. His team builds early prototypes for future
hardware and software including the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, a stylish mainstream
product now making waves in the blind and low vision community.

Originally designed to keep users connected without pulling out their phone,
the glasses have quickly gained attention for their accessibility potential —
reading letters, describing scenes, and even translating text in real time.
Agustya shares how blind employees at Meta influenced the design, why AI makes
these glasses more than just a gadget, and what’s planned for India, from Hindi
language support to local partnerships aimed at reducing cost barriers.

In this episode:

• The hackathon that sparked the AI smart glasses idea

• Why mainstream design helps break stigma in assistive tech

• Features that empower independence and privacy for blind users

• Plans to make the glasses more affordable and available in India
