Hello there,

Got it what you are asking for.

If you are using the custom installation of the espeak, use the language code
“en-in”

And see it works.

Hi, I am requesting them voice support for English (India) such as they are
already providing support of English (Great Britain), English (Caribbean),
English (Scotland), English (Lancaster), English (West Midlands), English
(Received Pronunciation), English (Shavian alphabet), English (America) and
even English (America, New York City).

Hi Ashutosh,

I really appreciate you taking these initiatives with accessibility and
assistive technologies! It's great work.

I'm having a little trouble understanding your specific concerns about
'eSpeak,' though.

eSpeak has two variants: the desktop version where you can make small
modifications using language codes, and the NVDA version, which already
includes support for all Indian languages.

Since your expectations are not quite clear, could you please let me know
exactly what you're looking for? That way, we can make sure what you're saying
is easily understandable by others.. Thanks!

Please work on my feedback. I requested for Indian English Accent support more
than 2 years ago. I am sending my request again: I am from India, which has
the largest population of People with Visual Impairments in the world — more
than 20 million people. eSpeak is an important tool for visually impaired
users, but it currently lacks an Indian English accent, unlike American and
British English.

Indian English has its own pronunciation and usage style:

• Schedule → “shed-yool” (Indian/British) vs “sked-jool” (American)

• Data → “daa-tah” (Indian) vs “day-tuh” (American)

• Advertisement → “ad-ver-tis-ment” (Indian) vs “ad-ver-tize-ment” (American)

• Garage → “ga-raj” (Indian) vs “ga-rahj” (American)

We also use lakhs and crores instead of millions and billions.

Adding Indian English accent support will make eSpeak more natural,
understandable, and inclusive for millions of Indian users who depend on screen
readers daily.

Please consider including this option in the next update.

Regards,

Ashutosh Singhal

Hi sir/mam,

This is my first email to this group.
I am from India. For your information India has the maximum number of the Blind
population in the World. Yes India has minimum 19 millions Blind according to
the World Health Organization even though Espeak does not have support of
English India accent unlike English USA, English (America, New York City) and
Uk etc.
We do not use millions and billions in our country instead we use Lakhs and
Crore in India. This is a simple example of English India version differences.
Like this we have many types of differences with another version of English
like English UK and English USA etc that's why I request you Please give
support for the English Indian accent in Espeak.
I hope you will work on it.
