Thank you for confirming that your company has no objection to the use of company email for personal correspondence, provided it doesn't violate existing policies. However, I as an internal IT security SPOC for my organization wanted to emphasize the critical security risks associated with using a company email ID, especially one with a detailed professional signature and contact information, on public forums or mailing lists. Even with company permission, using your professional email (e.g., mohammed.asif.iqbal@***.com) in public spaces exposes you and your organization to significant dangers, primarily: * Phishing and Targeted Attacks: By posting your corporate email publicly, you make yourself an easy target for spear phishing. Criminals can use the details in your signature (your name, title, firm, phone number, and location) to craft highly convincing, personalized emails that appear to come from internal staff, clients, or senior management. * Harvesting of Corporate Data: Spammers and malicious actors regularly 'scrape' public mailing lists and forums to gather valid corporate email addresses. This data is then used to launch large-scale attacks against your company's domain, attempting to breach firewalls or distribute malware. * Identity Theft/Impersonation: An attacker can impersonate you or someone from your firm by using your visible signature details, attempting to trick your colleagues or clients into sharing confidential information or transferring funds. * Privacy Concerns: Any personal discussions or subscriptions using your work email may technically be subject to company monitoring policies, even if you believe the content is benign. While your company may not object to the general usage, the security landscape dictates extreme caution. The detailed information in your signature, combined with the corporate domain, significantly increases the risk profile. For your own security and that of your firm, I strongly advise using a dedicated personal email address for all non-work-related mailing lists and online activities.
