Do not click any links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know that the content is safe. Dear Paul, Thank you for bringing this important matter to the group's attention. As a visually impaired student currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), I can assure you that it is entirely possible to complete this degree, despite certain challenges. Regarding the specific case in Bengaluru, one effective approach to suggest to the college is adapting the evaluation for practical sessions. If the student faces difficulties performing the practical tasks directly, the institution could allow them to complete a viva voce examination instead, keeping the rigorous standards of the assessment the same. In terms of academic challenges, coding and syntax can be demanding for visually impaired students. My personal approach to managing syntax is conceptually translating the code into theory rather than trying to memorize every specific punctuation mark or layout verbally. If the student is looking to pick up a programming language, I highly recommend starting with Python due to its relatively clean and accessible syntax. Additionally, the student can supplement their degree with professional accessibility certifications, such as the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC). There are also specialized institutions and platforms that provide accessible coding programs. If the college's environment presents too many barriers, the student might consider utilizing these external resources through self-paced or online courses, if the university permits. While I cannot recommend specific institutions offhand, a targeted search should yield good options. I hope this helps support the student's case with the college. Please feel free to reach out if you need any further insights. I have seen the discussion going on about a visually impaired pursuing BCA. It seems perfectly Natural to have a seat not provided when all though informed about the student willing to contribute his full efforts to strive within the course. I'm sorry to say that pursuing BCA isn't hard for a person with visual impairment, the only difficulty arises with subjects related to hardware. Programming is not an issue at all, Even if the college uses a different IDE, with the right support, he can switch to the IDE that is comfortable and usable. However, hardware subjects present a greater difficulty. addressing one more mith, BCA is not equal to pursuing a Bachelor of Technology. BCA's level of difficulty comparing to that of engineering is very different. BCA can be a little easier. But, noting this as the frequency of the people trying to attempt for this course, this course might appear a bit complex. But, BCA is not hard. I've known few of my friends who has pursued the same degree successfully. But the only things required are constant persistence and perseverance. I think it is completely doable. But, why did I say sorry despite the spossibility of pursuing? though it is pursuable, colleges/Universities doesn't have trust on people. It is a bad reputation for them if the student fails badly, and talks bad about the colleges staff or whatever that may imply. Few of them are stuck in the paradox that no blind person can code, awareness about how we use technology still needs to improve. So, consider this, When they are getting rejected, and not given a seat, its just not about how difficult the course is, but it is also how the mindset of the people who teaches is as well. the Same question has been shot when I have chosen an analytical course. I was able to talk and convey to them, they were fine with it. I was able to get the analytical course I wanted. At times we will be able to convey, and make them understand if they try to address. If not, better luck for other colleges, if the student is strongly fixed his/her mind on BCA. Thank you. Visually challenged individuals can successfully learn and work with various programming languages, such as Python and HTML, as part of their studies. With the right tools and accessibility support, pursuing a BCA degree is entirely achievable. Please let me know if you need any further information or specific recommendations. First, to clarify about the individual previously mentioned, it is my understanding that he did not study BCA, but rather pursued a BBA degree. Regarding the challenges a visually impaired student might face in a BCA program, the primary difficulty lies within the coding and programming aspects of the curriculum, which forms the core of the degree. Aside from coding, most other elements of the course should be accessible. Ultimately, success largely depends on the level of institutional support provided by the college or university in which the student is enrolled. That being said, if a student wishes to pursue a BCA, no institution should deny them a seat based on their visual impairment. I know of a completely blind individual named Sushanth who was pursuing a BCA when I spoke with him some time ago. He should have completed his degree by now and works with either Tech Freedom or VI Developers. You can reach out to him for more information and guidance at +91 98615 74469.
