Open the document in the browser and press shift tab, exit Focus mode till you get the download or open in Excel.

You can also amend your prompt to say, please provide a response with a file that can be downloaded.

Using Copilot directly inside Word has also been a disappointment. Instead, I use Claude Pro and ChatGPT Plus for all of my document editing, and they handle the work excellently.

Yes - it works pretty well.
I usually rely on the stand-alone application rather than the version of copilot inside a word or excel file. I also choose Claude Opes - there is a noticeable difference in the quality if you specifically choose claude.
The features may be limited on a personal account so do try if the above approach works well for you.
