Hi all, I am writing after a long gap. Do read and share your comments. Why are Deaf professionals in India stuck in entry-level jobs for years, even when other disabled colleagues move into leadership?
Turns out it's not talent — it's English. Specifically, written English, which almost no institute in India teaches to Deaf learners, even though dozens teach sign language to hearing people. I wrote about this after learning Indian Sign Language myself in 2023 — and struggling for months to follow my Deaf friends' WhatsApp texts, because ISL has a completely different grammar of its own.
