The latest episode, “Permanent Lok Adalats for Public Utility Service Disputes,” is now available on YouTube. This episode presents, in simple language, information about Permanent Lok Adalats and their role in resolving disputes relating to public utility services under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It covers how Permanent Lok Adalats facilitate conciliation and settlement of disputes relating to public utility services and how, if the parties are unable to reach a settlement through conciliation, the Permanent Lok Adalat may decide the dispute on merits in accordance with law. No court fee is required for filing an application, and an award of the Permanent Lok Adalat is final and binding on the parties. The episode also discusses public utility services that may fall within this mechanism, including transport services, postal and communication services, electricity and water supply, public sanitation, hospitals and dispensaries, insurance services, and education and educational institutions, as well as its relevance for persons with disabilities.
