My name is Simran Chawla, and along with Sudhanshu Khurana, I am building something very close to our hearts — Cinebility, a disability-led entertainment studio creating stories beyond stereotypes. We are reaching out to the AccessIndia community because we believe that the people who have lived these experiences should also have a voice in shaping how disability is represented in Indian entertainment. 🎬 What is Cinebility? For years, disability in Indian cinema and entertainment has often been portrayed as a limitation, a tragedy, a source of inspiration, or the central problem in a person’s life. But disabled people are so much more than their disabilities. A disabled person can be a hero, villain, romantic lead, comedian, entrepreneur, professional, student, friend, parent, dreamer, creator — or simply an ordinary person having an ordinary day. Cinebility is being built around one simple belief: Disability doesn’t always have to be the story. The person can be. We want to create short films, short-form stories and other entertainment content where disabled people are not just characters being represented — they are also the actors, writers, directors, creators and people behind the camera. ❤️ Why are we reaching out to you? Cinebility is currently being built from zero. We have the vision, the passion and an amazing response from people who want to be part of this journey. But at this stage, we don’t have funding. Instead of waiting until everything is perfect, we have decided to start with what we have — our skills, our community and people who believe in the idea. And that’s where you can help us. We are currently building the Cinebility Core Team and are looking for people who can contribute in any way they can: 🎬 Acting & performing ✍️ Story and script writing 🎨 Graphic designing 🎞️ Video editing 🎥 Filmmaking, cinematography & production 📱 Social media & content creation 📍 Helping us find shooting locations 📷 Equipment and production support 💄 Makeup & costume 🤝 Connecting us with brands and sponsors 💰 Financial support or sponsorship 📢 Helping us spread the word 💡 Ideas, skills, expertise, contacts or simply your time And if you don’t have any of these skills, even sharing Cinebility with your network can make a difference. 👥 A little about us I am Simran Chawla, a visually impaired creator, storyteller and content professional. My journey has taken me through technology, digital marketing, community building and disability inclusion, and I’ve always believed that representation should be created with the community, not simply about the community. Sudhanshu Khurana is a person with low vision and brings expertise in video shooting, cinematography, video editing and video production. Together, we have also been creating mainstream digital content for several years. We run a YouTube channel with more than 15,000 subscribers, along with Instagram pages that have also built a good audience. That experience has further strengthened our belief that disabled creators can create and be part of mainstream entertainment without disability having to define the content. And that’s what we want to build with Cinebility. We don’t have a large production house, a big team or a huge budget behind us. We are simply two people who believe that the stories of disabled people deserve a much bigger and more authentic space in entertainment.
