As far as I am able to understand, your friend must have changed the keyboard layout from 'Desktop' to 'Laptop'. There is nothing wrong in doing so but one must remember that apart from other changes, the Jaws key is changed from 'Insert' to 'Caps Lock' key. So, if your friend will press Caps Lock + F7, it should work as it is working . For more info on laptop keys, you can download what is suggested by Ashwani sir. Hope this helps.
