A BRIEF LIFE SKETCH OF THE CANDIDATE HIGHLIGHTING HIS STRUGGLE AGAINST THE
DISADVANTAGE CREATED BY HIS DISABILITY.

I was born on 5th December 1962 as a seeing child became visually
impaired in the year of 1969, when I was studying in the second standard. I was
admitted in the Govt. School for the Blind Kasargode and passed secondary
education (SSLC) in 1982. I successfully completed Pre-Degree from Sir. SAID
College Kannur and BA in History from Payyannur College Kannur. I have also
successfully completed 'Diploma in Teaching the Blind' in1985 from Blind Boys
Academy (BBA), Sree Rama Krishna Mission Asramam, Narendrapur, West Bengal.

PROFESSIONAL

I worked as Guidance and Counselor 1987 - 1988 under Department of
Social Welfare, Govt. of India. I was posted as Assistant Teacher in the
Schools for the Visually Impaired Students at Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram
for the period from 27/07/1988 to 15/06/2004. On promotion I have worked as the
Headmaster in the Govt. School for the Blind Olassa, Kottayam for the period
from 16/06/2004 to 27/07/2005. Then I was promoted as Deputy Director, Office
of the Director of Public Instruction, Thiruvananthapuram. Now I am working as
Deputy Director IEDC in the above mentioned Office in which I am the first
blind person reaching into this highest post in the history of Kerala and may
be in India too. During the period of my career I have gained my Masters Degree
in Political Science and B.Ed in Social Science. I have also received the under
mentioned Awards.

1. State Award for the most efficient Physically Disabled Employee,
Govt. of Kerala for the year 2002.

2. National Award from the Excellency President of India for the year
2004 - Given in Public Recognition of valuable services to the community as a
Teacher of Outstanding Merit.

3. Award on an appreciation and recognition of the meritorious and
selfless service in professional and social field from the Rotary International.

As a Social Worker, I was elected as Secretary of Kerala Federation
of the Blind for two tenures. I was the State President of the Students and
Teachers Forum of the same organization which is the self help movement of the
Visually Impaired in Kerala. It may be noted that this organization has been
selected as the best organization in India for dedicated service for the Blind.

I have conducted many eye camps all over Kerala, Integrated
Education Camps, Vocational Study Camp for Disabled, survey of the disabled,
medical camps, seminars and medical camps for the disabled, Blind welfare
celebrations throughout the State during the last 26 years. Most of the camps
were for physically disabled students. At present being the Deputy Director, I
could conduct a survey and identified 47725 students with 40% and above
disability. Moreover all these students have been given financial assistance as
per guidelines from M.H.R.D. Such attempts and assistance were very few and
rare earlier. Having faced the hardship of a handicapped student I was able to
sensitize similar hardships faced by the disabled students and this enabled and
motivated to me to strike hard and work for obtaining help to the challenged
students. Now I have been nominated by the State Government as one of the
Directors of the Kerala State Handicapped Persons Welfare Corporation.

Journalists, Press Media, Channels, AIR, My Higher Officers,
Colleagues and Administrative staff have given me maximum support to work in
the field of Education and Rehabilitation and prevention of Disability. I have
attended many workshops for the disabled in the out of State and Kerala and
attended Academic courses under DPEP and SSA.

As part of improving my efforts I have now completed M.Phil in
Political Science also.

I ensure that with my ability and talent I will dedicate my life
and service for the uplift of the disabled community, especially the students
and youth.
