ALREADY in an election mode doling out sops to various sections, the Congress The fee waiver will cover 16 professional courses including medical, engineering and law. Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy made the announcement here after inaugurating a Special Training Programme (STP) Centre for Muslim engineering graduates to impart IT skills. He said the Government would reimburse the entire fee for Muslim students taking up the professional courses. The facility was being given to encourage more Muslim students to pursue various professional courses on par with their Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe counterparts. Reeling out figures to buttress his argument that Congress Government was committed to minority welfare, Reddy said the annual budget for scholarship for minorities had been increased to Rs 120 crore compared to a mere Rs 4 crore in 2004 when Telugu Desam Party was in power. "Every eligible minority student will be given post-matric scholarship," the Chief Minister declared.
