National Conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Differently Abled People (DAP) About the conference: According to the Census 2001, there are 2.19 crore persons with disabilities in India who constitute 2.13 percent of the total population. This includes persons with visual, hearing, speech, locomotor and mental disabilities. Addressing issues of this special group is paramount importance of everyone. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) offer Differently Abled People with new possibilities to achieve independent living and full participation in social, economic, and cultural activities. However, there is a digital divide between non-disabled and disabled persons, just as there is one between the rich and the poor or between rural and urban. In order to bridge this digital divide and promote digital opportunities for Differently Abled People, Computer Society of India-Ahmedabad Chapter is organising this conference with the following mani-fold objectives. § To disseminate information how emerging technologies of ICT could empower Differently Abled Persons. § To understand needs of Differently Abled Persons in using ICT Tools. § To demonstrate skills of Differently Abled Persons in using ICT. § To provide a platform for researchers/students/teachers to share their knowledge. § To discuss positive side of employing Differently Abled Persons. § ICT for Eduction and Training of DAP and Teachers. Programme: It is intended to invite eminent personalities-researchers, developers, employers, DAP, et al to address on the conference objectives. In addition to this, half-a-day paper presentation is also scheduled. Call for Papers: It is proposed to invite a limited number of high quality papers having practical applications from researchers/teachers/students for oral presentation. Participants willing to present their papers on any of the objectives listed above or related to general theme of conference are requested to submit full-length paper through e-mail only (emailid: ) not later than July 15, 2008. The paper should be not more than 10 pages of A4 size with spacing 1.5 lines, typed in English (using MS-Word) in Times New Roman 11 points with 2.5 cm margins on all four sides. Papers will be reviewed by panel of experts accepted papers for oral presentation will be intimated by August 15, 2008. It may be noted that the selected paper will be included in the proceedings (CD Media) only if registration fee is received at least from one of the authors (in case of more than one author) on or before August 30, 2008. Registration fee: Sponsored Delegates: Rs. 1500/- Student Delegates: Rs. 1000/- § 20% discount for CSI members. § 50% discount for DAP. § 10% discount for Early Bird Registration on or before August 31, 2008. § Registration fee can be paid by local cheque or Demand Draft in favour of "Computer Society of India, Ahmedabad Chapter". Travel and Accomodation: Ahmedabad is well connected by road, rail and air. Many good hotels are available in the city. Those who are desirous of booking their accommodation may do so directly with the hotels. However, the organisers are exploring to find accomodation at nominal rate in and around conference venue. The detailed information will be uploaded in the conference web site. Sponsorship: Financial support from sponsoring organisation is invited. The different sponsorship schemes are described below: Diamond Sponsorship: Sponsorship will cost Rs. 1.0 lac and is eligible for 7 free delegates and banner display at the conference venue, lunch venue and registration counter. Gold Sponsorship: Sponsorship will cost Rs. 50000/- and is eligible for 3 free delegates and banner display at the conference venue and registration counter. Silver Sponsorship: Sponsorship will cost Rs. 25000/- and is eligible for 1 free delegate and banner display at the conference venue. Other Sponsorship Schemes: Sponsorship for nominating DAP to attend the conference is Rs. 500/- per delegate. Lunch sponsorship will cost Rs. 15000/-. High Tea Sponsorship will cost Rs. 7000/-. In addition to above, sponsorer's logo will be printed in all communication letters of the conference.
