What is lighttpd?
lighttpd is a web server which is designed to be secure, fast,
standards-compliant, and flexible while being optimized for speed-critical
environments. With a small memory footprint compared to other web-servers,
effective management of the cpu-load, and advanced feature set (FastCGI, SCGI,
Auth, Output-Compression, URL-Rewriting and many more) lighttpd is the perfect
solution for every server that is suffering load problems.
Core Features:
lighttpd supports SSLv2 and SSLv3 if it is compiled against openssl.
lighttpd supports limiting the bandwidth for a single connection or config
context like a virtual host or a URL.
lighttpd runs best without any extra privileges and runs perfectly in chroot.
lighttpd is a single-threaded, single-process, event-based, non-blocking-IO web
server. This is perfect for the performance it doesn't scale very well over
CPUs.
