Long ago, we had a posting in our list which stated that OBC
reservations may have an impact on disabled quota. Assuming that the
overall quota can be a certain per cent of the number of seats then all
reservations will have to be adjusted within that. So there is possibly
a conflict between various categories of reservations which may threaten
the very purpose of reservations.

Subject: [jnuvision] update on admissions for disabled at JNU,

Hi Group,

I am back here again with latest developments happening at JNU regarding
the
intake of students with disabilities in the current academic year.
as planned earlier, today, we met with the deputy registrar, Admissions
and
later the rectar-1. as many of have expected before, what happened in
JNU in
the current academic year is very unfortunate. we were finally informed
that
the very media statement of our Vice-chansellor quoted last year is
getting
materialised. now, university has begun adopting horrizontal reservation
policy, where students with disabilities will be required to compete
either
in the general category or in their respective caste quotas. the three
percent reservation as an independent category has completely been
abolished. we were orally informed that the decision to this effect has
been
taken by the academic council of J.N.U.
what is more horrifying is the fact that not even a single eminent
professor
of total 125 total sitting as honourable members in the Academic
council,
the highest decision-making body of the premier educational institute in
india, has got intellegence to remember the two significant
supreme-court
orders given very recently.

when reviewed in the light of these judicial orders, the present
admission
policy adopted to provide reservation for persons with disabilities at
J.N.U. seems a complete violation of the law of the land. I hope our
members
can recall what these significant supreme-court verdicts are!

by the grace of god's providence, this was what exactly we tried to
highlight in the letter we've submitted to the administration on
twenty-fifth of this month, in which we clearly stated this judicial
position. I know the attachments could not be sent to your mail-box for
I
was unaware of the security concerns of our group. I uploaded the letter
and
RTI reply to my web-page, and am providing a direct link for you to be
able to download them directly. you can either press enter on the links
provided below or copy each of them to your clip-board and paste into
your
browser's address bar and then press enter. in either of the case, you
will
be able to download these documents for a comfortable reading.

although the facts presented above are quite alarming, nothing to be
worried
much! each officer we've met with today, is not in a position to claim
with
self assertion that the decision they've taken is completely
justifiable.
we've been assured that they are ready to correct themselves, if need
arises. what we've now planned is to make that need arise. we couldn't
meet
the director admissions today as he has already left the office. we'll
be
meeting him tomorrow and do our last bid before moving to the legal
options.
we are even planning to meet the vice-chansellor if these officers
aren't
ready to go for policy change.

our members are requested to throw their comments, suggestions and even
querries, if any, and cooperate with us at an hour of need. please also
let
us know if any other legal option is available.

hoping for your larger support!
