What is Cloud Computing ?
Cloud computing is giving a new dimension to online computing. Its also defined
as an updated version of utility computing. It is basically a combination of
connections, software and services accessed over a network. This network of the
servers and connections are collectively know as "the cloud". Cloud computing
can be contrasted with the traditional desktop computing model, where the
resources of a single desktop computer are used to complete tasks and an
expansion of the client/server model. Users can reach into the cloud by using a
thin client or other access point, like an iPhone, BlackBerry or laptop, for
resources. Google Apps, Maps and Gmail are all based in the cloud.
What are its advantages?
• Computing at the scale of the cloud allows users to access
supercomputer-level power.
• Applications can be built that run on the provider's infrastructure and are
delivered to your users via the Internet from the provider's servers.
• Cloud computing allows users and companies to pay for and use the services
and storage that they need, when they need them.
• Hundreds of organizations are already offering free Web services in the cloud.
• Helps to create an immensely powerful, scalable system.
