But I have a question here --how do you recognise what version of IE you are using? For instance, I have installed Windows XP in 2005 and JAWS only reads 'internet explorer' often without the version details.

When you get to the page containing RSS/podcast links, your IE7 will automatically recognize it and you should get to tools by pressing ault+T and then up aero until you see feed discovery menu. Ones you are there, then press the right aero to see if a given page contains feeds that you can add. Generally when you see a feed for the first time, you will hear JAWS announce "New". So click on that feed and a page will open asking you to click on the subscribe button and clicking on that will open a dialog box asking you whether you really want to subscribe. Get to the subscribe button and the feed will be automatically added to your list. You can periodically check to see about the new feeds by pressing control+J within the internet explorer window.
