Hi, The "talking cellphones by default" that you mention are also called off-the-shelf cell phones. Off-the-shelf cell phones are designed with a degree of built-in speech-output capability. These cell phones are manufactured by companies like Motorola, Samsung, LG, etc. All of them feature proprietary software which speaks basic functions of the phone, such as contacts, missed calls and status information. The presence of other accessibility features depend on the manufacturers and on the model. The price of such cell phones has a range from Rs 500 to Rs 4000 (when translated from dollars to rupees).
More information can be found here. http://www.accessiblephones.com/phones.php?p=21 An article on their evaluation can be found here. http://afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw070503&select=1#1 You can enquire about the availability in India from their respective manufacturers. For those interested in Symbian phones, the above mentioned site is overall a handi resource. http://www.accessiblephones.com/ Regards --- On Tue, 8/5/08, manoj gupta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From: manoj gupta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [AI] ask Nokia > To: [email protected] > Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 10:09 AM > Hello Guys, > During the last six months, I have written at least 7 > times to Nokia asking for launchof either a talking > cellphone by default for the blind or launch > a comparative cheaper Symbian phone, in which Talks can be > loaded, they have replied positively but did nothing.
