Subject: [AI] "Demystifying Blindness" ,on August 13th

taken from Bangalorecares

As eye care professionals, often we come across patients we are unable
to offer surgical or medical care for their loss of vision. This is
more often not because of the frustration in not being able to help
the person "SEE",but more often because we are ill equipped to deal
matter of factly with physical limitations and psychological
implications of visual impairment.

Blindness is after all beyond the experience of a sighted person.
Though we may able to simulate the physical disability, the emotional
background neither can be reproduced nor fathomed. We often feel
insecure in the company of the blind. We are worried to offend their
dignity and at times adopt a patronizing attitude or go overboard
trying to help them.

We invite you to a talk by Mr Ketan Kothari , Programme Officer ,Sight
Savers International , Mumbai on

"Demystifying Blindness"

on August 13th in the evening at 6.30 PM at the

Sankara Eye Hospital,

Kundalahalli Gate,

Varthur Main Road (HAL Airport Road),

Bangalore.

Ketan Kothari is totally blind since birth. He has secured his
education both in a special school and an integrated set up. After
completion of his secondary education, he enrolled in SIES college in
Mumbai and completed his bachelor's degree in Political Science.

He went on to complete Master's degree in the same subject from Mumbai
University with a gold medal. Presently, he works as Programme
Officer at the Sightsavers International, South India Area Office.

He worked in National Association for the Blind for 14 years in
various capacities. He has been active in many forums in advocating
the cause of the blind and disabled.

In his presentation he would share pearls on interacting with the
disabled and would dispel common myths surrounding blindness. This
would go a long way in helping those working with the diabled.
