Hi Young Voices, is a new self-help group aimed specifically to tackle the issues concerning people with disabilities. I joined this SHG and took part in its preliminary meeting. We had a discussion about the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, its implimentation, the current standard of life among the rural disabled people and other social, economic, and political issues that are currently being faced by PWDs. This group is supported by an organisation called "Lenard Cheshire Disabled" (LCD). As for now, there are around 10 members in this group (including me), and we want to increase it by another 15 or 20, so that whatever activities we conduct is more effective. We cordially invite our disabled friends to join us in promoting the interests of all the disableds people of the nation. We only want the PWDs, and prefer the age group of 18 - 25. Others can subscribe to our mailing list without any restrictions, which would be created soon, and we would be delighted to take their inputs. Currently we are based in Bangalore, but are planning on expanding ourselves in other parts of the country also. the second meeting will be held on the 28th of september 2008 in the LCD premises.
