I agree. The text of the webpage is not even exposed through the off-screen model. Until Google provides APIs to access the DOM, there is going to be no other alternative. But as the article suggests, I am quite satisfied with IE 8. This is more so with Jaws 10 where ARIA and live region support is pretty good. I tested a few AJAX pages with J10 and the results are very encouraging...
