Changing it to basic HTML should solve the problem. After logging on to your gmail, press insert+F7 and then B until you get to basic HTML. Press enter on it and you will see your options being presented in a very simplified lay out. To make HTML as the permenent layout, open any message within gmail. Within that there is a link called "set HTML as the default view". Select it and press enter on it and you should be good to go.
