Yes, it plays all the popular formats.
The reason I recommend downloading this player is because it has quite a few 
features that are not present in regular media players.

You can search or browse through radios, podcasts, and audio books (in the 
public domain) by different categories. 

It allows you to record, accelerate the speed, download to a mobile device, and 
many more functions.

The most interesting aspect is that it is a self-voicing application that also 
encorporates auditory cues, which do not rely on speech. For example, as you 
read a menue, the volume of the speech increases from left to right, giving you 
an idea of the direction.
