Hello, This works in ms word 10 or the office xp suite.
Go to Format menu, Tabs... submenu to activate the tab stop dialogue box. The first control is an edit field where you can specify the position of the first tab stop. If you type 3 here, that will become the first tab stop on a line. Tab over to the next control which is the edit field for default tab stop. The default value is 0.5" or inch. You can set it to, say 1. IN that case, The tab stop from the second hit will be at 1 inch on a line. If you don't specify any value for the first tab stop and specify only the default value, obviously all tab stops will be at the new default value. The next control is a combo box for alignment. Here left is the default value. You can select centre, right etc for alignment within each tabbed area. The next control is also a combo box where you can select an option for a leader like ... or --- etc. None is default. The next control is the set button which you can activate to put the settings into effect. Tab over to the Ok button and test your formatting. Use alt+del key to check cursor position. Remember that " (quote) is the symbol for inch. I am not sure if I have explained properly. Give it a try and you will understand it better.
