Dear all I hope our members will volunteer enthusiastically for the survey. I suggest if members would also test it with some free screen readers like NVDA, SAFA etc along with their regular screen readers. Pl also indicate the screen reader and the version no you are using.
Best regards Harish. ________________________________ From: Nirmita Narasimhan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2008 4:48 PM To: Kotian, H P Subject: Re: help with web accessibilitysurvey Dear Harish, can't get through to your number. Shall call tomorrow. I am producing below the message I posted on Accessindia. It doesn't seem to have been reflected. Could you help me with this? Thanks, Nirmita Dear All, As you are aware the Centre for Internet and Society has launched a campaign for having a national policy on accessibility. We had our first meeting for devicing a strategy for making web standards mandatory in India in our office in Bangalore on 7th November. You can read about this at http://www.cis-india.org/advocacy/open-standards/accessibility In order to take this forward, I was looking at having a survey on a very small level of some twenty Government web sites which would be critical for our use. I was wondering if some of you would volunteer to help me out with this. The sites I had in mind were- National Informatics Centre, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (highly inaccessible), Railways, UGC, some education sites like IIM A, B, IIT Delhi and Kanpur, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, some medical sites like AIMS and CMC Vellore, some banking sites like SBI, Syndicate Bank and Punjab National Bank, Income Tax site and maybe the Parliament- Lok and Rajya Sabhas. If you could- A. rate the site on a scale from 1-10 b. mention how accessible it is and give some of the problems encountered in each siteit would be great. I really need this info and would really appreciate your help in this matter. If the volunteers can indicate at the beginning what sites they will like to review, it would save duplication. Depending on the number of volunteers you get, you can give 1 website to more than 1 individual andsee what results you get. Do fine the screen reader they are using and its version. For more info, pl feel free to speak on phone. Yes I am a member of access india. I did consider this possibility, but do you think that I will be able to get systematic tests done by persons? Also I did ask Barrier Break too, but I think they are too expensive and considering I just need this for research and documentation I thought if I could find individual volunteers who can help me out it would be great. Please advise, Nirmita ----- Original Message ----- From: Kotian, H P<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: 'Nirmita Narasimhan'<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2008 2:51 PM Subject: RE: help with web accessibilitysurvey Hi Nirmita Sure it can be done. I suggest you put your request to accessIndia mailing list. Here you would get volunteers for the same and distribute the work. Professionally BarrierBreak would have done work on the same. If you are not a member of AccessIndia as yet, then you can write to me providing the email ID on which you want the mails to flow. I am doing work on web accessibility amongst other things. My main interest area here is accessibility for disabled persons. Currently we have launched a campaign to bring web accessibility into the national policy and make it mandatory for all government web sites to comply with WCAG or any tther adopted standards. In that context I required rather urgently a survey of some government sites which are frequently and necessarily used by disabled persons. The sites I had in mind are- NIC.in, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Railways, the Lok and Rajya Sabhas and the Parliament, the PM and the President, some education sites like- IIT, IIM, Jawarharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, health sites like AIMS Delhi and CMC Vellore, Banking sites like SBI, Syndicate Bank and P NB etc. I was wondering if you could help me in any way with this? If you could give me your mobile number I could call and we could talk further about it. Looking forward to your response, cheers, Nirmita Nirmita Narasimhan Centre for Internet and Society No. D2, 3rd Floor, Sheriff Chambers 14, Cunningham Road, Bangalore - 560 052 P: +91 80 4092 6283 M: 098458 68078 ________________________________ Notice: This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
