Dear friends,
Four Organizations of the Visually Challenged in Tamil Nadu, namely, The Indian
Association for the Blind, The Tamil Nadu Association of the Blind, Visually
Impaired Women's Association and, The Welfare Foundation of the Blind, all of
them affiliates of ALL INDIA CONFEDERATION OF THE BLIND(New Delhi), along with
the National Association for the Blind(Tamil Nadu branch) and the National
Federation of the Blind (Tamil Nadu branch), have formed a Joint Committee to
celebrate the Louis Braille Bi-Centenary Year on a grand scale.
The Joint Committee has already conducted a State Level Braille Reading and
Writing Competition for the Visually Challenged students studying in 18 Schools
all over TamilNadu. An Essay writing competition in both Tamil and English on
topics related to the Visually Challenged is also conducted for the Blind

of these competitions will be awarded on the 4th of January 2008, at the Louis

What is so significant about these competitions is that the braille passages

conducted by the Worth Trust. The Worth trust has also made arrangements for
visually challenged people to become a member of the book share, on library for
the blind. The subscription of rs. 400 has to be paid along with the national
id for disability.
As part of the celebration,, two books are to be released by INDIAN
ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND and WELFARE FOUNDATION OF THE BLIND. These books
carry the biography of Louis Braille and articles on Braille translated from
English to Tamil by visually challenged students and teachers.
Mr. T.d Dinakar I.A.S, a visually challenged I.A.S officer will be honoured
with special achiever award.
