Most people I have met in big companies like Cisco and Juniper seem to
have this option.

Subject: Re: [AI] Telecommuting - your views

As you say, there are benifits as well as limitations to working from
home.
Firstly, in India, travelling to work location could be a problem for
some.
There may be certain health reasons or responsibilities which may
necessitate working from home. Also, if you have a peaceful household
without too many disturbances, your productivity may be higher. This
assumes
however that most of your tasks are largely isolated in nature. If you
have
to interact frequently with colleagues to perform a task, it won't be
convenient to you as well as the colleagues to be on the phone all the
day.
There is also the cost of internet access and other communication
requirements. One should also have good power backup especially in
India.

I think a job in an office with an option to work from home if required
is
the ideal scenario.

Regards,
Kiran
