good afternoon accessindians since the list's active topic is sfx( self extracting archive ), the so far best software i've found is known as 7zip.
please google for 7zip and download it. i'm recommending it, because it provides the highest compression level ( 8 times then win rar, and 3 times then winzip) +, it is a free software.. so say goodbye to purchase now nagging screen! it is highly accessible and have all features of encryption, self extracting file, and can zip and unzip in more then 9 types of format( more then any other zipping utility ) here is the steps to create self extracting file in 7-zip: locate the target file/folder to be archived and hit application key. arrow down til you here 7-zip submenu. hit enter on add to archive... a combo box opens where you can specify the file name, with the extension 7z. by default, the executable file is created in the same location, if you want to change it, hit tab and then enter on buttone ( jaws reads it as ... buttone ) tab once more to select which type of format you want to use while you archive the file. please select 7z, because only in this format you can create the executable.. tab once more and select Compression level this decides the size of your file, i always uses Ultra for minimum file size( this however, is a bit slow if you are packing or unpacking a large amount of data, ultra will create the smallest possible executable file, but it will take some time) then tab around,, there are many by default technical values, if you know what you are doing, then only change them, else leave them at their default for best result. while tabbing around, you will here options create sfx archive check box not checked, if you want to create an executable, please check it. proceed and if you want, you can also provide a password( in this case, users only who knows the password can unzip the files) enter same password in both the box and hit okay. that's it! your smallest, fastest and secured executable file is created! and just for the information, this is what we use in packing up the portable version of portable NVDA ( 38 MB into just 10 MB) with regards, ruchir. -- As long as forever, I will stay by your side, I'll be your companion, Your friend and your guide!!! www.ruchir89.wordpress.com To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
