Dear Rajesh, I am fully in agreement with your views. Further, I appriciate
the vigorous style with which you write. No one had ever suggested that
pornography
should be discussed in Access India. The only question raised was whether
there are
any sites or groups from where the Blind can access such information, and
there was nothing wrong in posing this question.
Thanking You,
Yours,
Professor Shyam M. Sayanekar

Dear Venkat
I am fully conversant with the definition of the word: pornography as
beside having a postgraduation in English, I happen to have it in Law and
Psychology as well, and so, no confusing it with sex education.
However, the terms like literary/artistic value, educational value are
best left to judicial discretion in most of the cases as they are
unnecessarily vague and are decided from case to case differently.
Besides, pornography, as it stands, should be equally accessible to
visually impaired as well, Visual impairment does not constitute a bond to
live a sinless and a straight life. Moreover my friend, stimulation of
sexual desire itself is a vital prerequisite for perpetuation of the
species and all such material can and is used for constructive purposes.
Accessibility, as I understand it, has for its purpose, minimization of
impact of visual or any other disabling loss on all activities good or
bad.

Respected Access Indians,
I am surprised when I read Rajesh sir's response to a query on
pornography. I think that he might have taken pornography for sex
education. Here is a definition for the word "pornography" from a
dictionary.
Creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary
or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire
He further says that the people who discussed it are respected and
experienced persons then:
*Don't they know that this is not a place to raise that topic?
*Don't they know where that material is available?
Regarding accessible pornographic material, if all feel such a thing
is required, then institutions like NIVH and NGOs like NAB and Mitr
Jyoti should come up with guidelines for the development of such
material.
