My ear was my eye." -Rahul Shirsat The Exhibition is open from 21 - 27, March on all days between 3pm to 8pm Project supported by Kodak, UnLtd India Beyond Sight is an exhibition of photographs taken by photographers with varying degrees of visual impairment, ranging from partial to total blindness. They use the camera as an extension of "self" to explore the visual world, gain deeper insight while recording their imagination and their point-of-view. Various touch, audio clues, memories of sight, warmth of light, cognitive skills and intuitive abilities are used by the visually impaired to create mental image before they take judgment to take a picture. The exhibition illuminates a new line of thought distinct from the way we approach photography, celebrates the human spirit of self-expression, helps to sensitize public, facilitates social inclusion and raises funds for the cause of visually impaired. Along with the normal photographs the exhibition provides touchable "raised" images, Braille footnotes, large prints, visual aids and audio description for the visually impaired visitors. Beyond Sight exhibition is the culmination of the Blind With Camera project started by Partho Bhowmick in association with the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Mumbai. The project is the first of its kind in India and member of a global consortium on art by the blind promoted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA. Beyond Sight has been exhibited at Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi, and presented at several conferences. Visit the exhibition to experience a world different from the one in which most of us live.
