Dear Mr. Banaji,

I am pleased to inform you that the Indian Institute of Information
Technology, Allahabad is organizing an International Seminar on 'Empowering
Visually Impaired through ICT' from April 15 to April 16, 2009 at its campus
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology [RGIIT] Tikarmafi Amethi.
This is a follow up of the National Seminar on Empowering Differently Abled
through ICT that the Institute organized in New Delhi in February 2008.



Focus of this Seminar will be on employment of ICT solutions in four areas
that will make significant contribution in improving the quality of lives of
visually impaired individuals:



   - To use ICT tools in prevention, timely identification and intervention
   of visual impairment, such as: Tele-ophthalmology is an emerging solution in
   India and globally.
   - To discus about ICT solutions that will empower visually impaired to
   access information in the digital world.
   - To deliberate on the emerging trends in adaptive technologies.
   - To discuss how ICT can be used to deal with the social issues.

 As an outcome of the February 2008 Seminar, the Institute has planned to
establish a Center of Excellence for Empowering Differently Abled through
ICT [CDAP-ICT] at Allahabad. The deliberations of present Seminar will add
on other component to find ICT based solutions to the issues under
considerations.



The details of the Seminar have been published on the website
www.seminarevip.iiita.ac.in. We will be publishing the presentations made in
the Seminar on the website.
