Kalpetta
Braille system at poll booths
A Correspondent
KALPETTA: P.P. Gopi, chief electoral officer and District Collector, said
here on Sunday that the Braille system would be introduced in the
forthcoming elections to enable visually-challenged people to cast their
votes. Ballot papers would be prepared for this task in Braille script,
he said. Each polling station would have a single dummy Braille ballot
sheet prepared in English. Polling officials would be given special
training in this regard, he said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Administration) P.A. Divakaran said
1,155 police personnel would be deployed in the district for election
work.
In all, 446 polling booths would be set up in 271 buildings in the
district, of which 132 buildings would have one booth each, 108
buildings, two booths each, and 26 buildings with three booths each.
Depending on the number of booths, one to three police personnel would be
deployed at each booth. In the 48 sensitive booths in the district, one
additional policeman would be deployed on duty and at 13 vulnerable
booths in the district, four additional police personnel would be
deployed, he said.
