Society for child development announces legal aid cell and online legal aid
  The Need:
The problems faced by the persons with disabilities are varied and
complex and needs appropriate intervention to resolve them. Albeit
Judiciary is the most popular and conventional mechanism of dispute
settlement, experience shows that the judicial process—even though
effective—is in most cases time consumed and expensive. While it is
acknowledged that certain case need judicial intervention due to the
nature of the issues involved, many of these can be settled amicably
outside the Court through Alternative means of Dispute Resolution
(ADR) I.E. negotiation, conciliation, and so on.
ADR cells in many parts of India have been running successfully.the
coordinator of the proposed cell, Ms. Anuroopa Giliyal has had four
years of experience in running similar cells in Bangalore. While
bringing the same experience to Delhi, the Society Of Child
Development (SFCD) has started a legal aid cell—an exclusive
initiative to resolve problems of persons with disabilities. At the
cell, apart from the facilitating settlement, legal opinion and legal
representation in cases where judicial intervention is the best
option, is also provided.
Although SFCD offers services to all persons with disabilities,
primary focus will be on those from economically backward groups and
persons with mental disabilities (mental retardation and mental
illness), their service providers and care givers.

  Functioning of the Cell:
The legal cell will function five days a week (Mon to Fri) beetween
10 Am-1 pm at the SFCD Premises at M 63, Ground floor, Lajpat Nagar
II, New Delhi.
Clients will be seen with prior appointment.
Phone: 41727004, contact person: Ms Anuroopa Giliyal.

  Online Legal Cell:
Further, as part of this initiative, SFCD also started an online
legal cell on their website at www.disabilityindia.org where legal
opinion is provided free of cost. The best feature of this cell is
that it catters exclusively to persons with disabilities. Queries from
all over the country on various issues relating to disability are
responded to at the online cell.
  Dr. Madhumita Puri,
  Society For Child Development,
thanks,
mukesh jain.
