COMPUTER APPLICATIONS FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Sub: Special Job-oriented Diploma course for the
Visually Impaired - admissions for the
Academic year 2009-2010 – reg.,
This is to inform you that the following job-oriented professional
course leading to three-year Diploma in Computer Applications for
the Visually Impaired is available exclusively for the visually
impaired students. The Admissions for the above course will commence
from first week of June 2009.
1. COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:
i) Computer basics, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet with basic
and advance audio lab sessions.
ii) English Language Skills (Spoken & Written)
iii) Basic Accounting, Secretarial Practice, Office Management and
Business Law & Auditing
iv) Medical Transcription: Theory and Practical training based on the
guidelines of American Association for Medical Transcription, USA.
2. QUALIFICATION:
Pass in Karnataka SSLC or its equivalent with Braille knowledge.
3. LIST OF SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO FACILITATE EASY
LEARNING BY THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED:
i. Fully Loaded computers with ‘JAWS’ software that reads out whatever is
typed.
ii. Fully equipped Audio Lab for improving English Language Skills.
iii. Braille Embossing Machine for Course Material in Braille.
iv. Electronic Reader Machine that reads out text material.
v. Embossing Machine for illustrated material for visualization of figures.
4. JOB PROSPECTS:
a. Medical Transcriptionist:
It may be noted that for the first time in the country we have
introduced Medical Transcription Training as part of the three year
Diploma course for the visually impaired.
Medical Transcription is a job-oriented professional course, on
completion of which, the diploma holders join any Medical
Transcription Company as a Transcriptionist. A Medical
Transcriptionist can hope to get upto Rs. 12000/- per month at the end
of two years. He / she can aspire to be a Medical Transcription
Editor after 4 to 5 years with a salary upto Rs.18000/- per month. We
are glad to inform you that some of our Diploma Holders are already
working in Medical Transcription Companies in Bangalore and elsewhere.
